Dulux Colour Awards Judging Panel Announced Ahead of February Entry Deadline

Leading paint manufacturer, Dulux has revealed an impressive judging panel for the 2010 Dulux Colour Awards, which will be held in Melbourne, Australia in late March.

The Dulux Colour Awards, which close for entry on February 19, are the premiere showcase for the creative use of colour in architecture and interior design.

Now in their 24th year, the awards were this year widened to include entries from design professionals throughout New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

This is the first year that architects and interior designers practising in New Zealand have been invited to enter the illustrious Dulux Colour Awards.

To celebrate the opening of the awards to New Zealand design professionals, Dulux New Zealand has announced that they will host a maximum of 10 finalists to travel from New Zealand to Melbourne to attend the awards ceremony.

The stellar judging panel confirmed for this year’s 2010 Dulux Colour Awards comprises of highly respected industry professionals spanning the architectural, interior design and art sectors and includes:

Carey Lyon, Director, Lyons
Carey Lyon has won more than 25 state, national and international awards for outstanding architectural projects, during a career that spans 30 years.

Honourable accolades include Lyon’s being elected as National President of the Australian Institute of Architects for 2005/2006 and chairing the Venice Architecture Biennale Committee from 2004 through 2006. He is currently a Board Member of the Green Buildings Council of Australia, and chairs its Technical Steering Committee.

In 2006 he was recognised for his contribution to architectural teaching, practice and design research by being appointed an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at RMIT University in Melbourne.

Recent awards for his projects include AIA National Awards for Sustainable Architecture (in 2005 and 2007), and awards for major public buildings.

Alison Page, Interior Designer
Alison is one of only a handful of Aboriginal interior designers.

Having completed a Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours) from the University of Technology in Sydney in 1997, Alison has spent the last decade managing the interior design arm of Merrima Design, Australia’s only indigenous architectural practice.

In this role, Alison is able to explore and engage her passion for designing spaces that work in harmony with the environment and connect meaningfully with people.

Alison is also a judge on ABC Television’s ‘The New Inventors’.

Vincent Fantauzzo, Artist
Having completed his Masters of Fine Arts RMIT at the age of 28, Vincent has gone on to become a highly lauded, exceptionally respected member of the art community and is represented by Dianne Tanzer Gallery + projects.

Vincent entered the 2008 Archibald Portrait Prize with a stunning work of the late Heath Ledger, who saw him win not only runner-up status but also the People’s Choice award. That same year he was declared Artist of the Year in GQ Man of the Year Awards. His entry of the child actor Brandon Walters in Baz Luhrmann’s epic ‘Australia’ last year won him the People’s Choice award. He was also voted one of Melbourne’s most influential people by (Melbourne) magazine.

2010 entrants will be short-listed by a panel of internal judges led by Andrea Lucena-Orr before being reviewed by this acclaimed panel of individuals.

Applications for the 2010 Dulux Colour Awards and award categories are available online via www.dulux.com.au/colourawards, with submissions due by Friday 19th February 2010. 

As in previous years, each category winner will enjoy a prized trophy, cash (AUD2,000 for the Grand Prix, AUD1,500 for each professional title and AUD1,000 for the student). All finalist projects will be displayed at designEX.

The Grand Prix winner will in addition not only enjoy Return airfares and 5 nights accommodation to attend 100% Design Toyko, but revel in the prestige of joining some of the design industry’s most admired and respected professionals, including previous winners such as ARM (2009), Carr Design Group, Bligh Voller Nield, Denton Corker Marshall, John Wardle, McBride Charles Ryan, Nonda Katsalidis, Kerstin Thompson Architects and Woods Bagot.

Award Categories

• Residential Exterior: The exterior paint finishes of any building used as a private residence.
• Residential Interior: The interior paint finishes of any building used as a private residence.
• Commercial Exterior: The exterior paint finishes of any commercial or industrial building.
• Commercial Interior: The interior paint finishes of any commercial or industrial building.
• Sustainable Interior: Any interior paint project - commercial or residential - that use Dulux Professional EnvirO2.
• Student Category Years 1-6: Paint specification by architecture or interior design students who are currently attending or have just completed - within the past 12 months - a course at a recognised university or college. Please complete the student entry form.
• Grand Prix: Selected from amongst all category winners, this must be a complete - built - project.

2010 entrants will be short-listed by a panel of internal judges led by Andrea Lucena-Orr before being reviewed by a trio of guest judges, traditionally themselves highly admired and acclaimed members of the design related industries.
