Paul Johnson - Design Works
Paul Johnson joined Designworks in 2002 as a graduate. Since then, and without leaving his desk once, he's enjoyed a balanced creative diet working for clients across various disciplines and industries spanning local bands with no money to New Zealand's largest corporates, along the way experiencing a taste of pretty much everything in between.
His work at designworks has won numerous Best Design Awards including the Stringer in 2006 and has been showcased in the London D&AD annual, winning a silver pencil. Recently his work on The Phoenix Foundation's album 'Buffalo' won the Vodafone NZ music awards 'Tui' for best album cover of 2010.
He currently holds the position of Design Leader in the Designworks Wellington office
Markus Hofko aka Rainbowmonkey
Markus Hofko has been working as an artist, designer and musician under the pseudonym The Rainbowmonkey for over 10 years. After his studies as a communication designer in Augsburg, Germany and a few years of agency work he moved to Auckland, New Zealand in 2007 to change the scenario and start from scratch. Markus comes from a traditional commercial advertising background but has been drifting apart into his own 'Rainbowmonkey world' over the years. His strong visual output expresses his urge to find a unique language for each individual project. Rather than developing his own style Markus tries to re-invent himself permanently. Nevertheless his body of work feels compact and a unique Hofko handwriting can't be denied. The 'escape' from classic advertising led to an aesthetic which almost topples over to the arts – yet it does not completely.
Markus is also co-founder of the newspaper-style magazine Pie, which uncovers the lost secrets and hidden beauty of our world
OH.NO.SUMO
OH.NO.SUMO. are coming to Wellington! The design collective formed by Sarosh Mulla, Patrick Loo, Katherine O’Shaughnessy and James Pearce aims to work outside the often perceived boundaries of architectural practice by reconfiguring the role of the designer. Adopting manufacturing techniques from other fields, venturing into community driven initiatives and acting as their own client to pursue design as research and enjoyment with tangible impact. The studio operates as a non-hierarchal group of designers with distinctly different skills and viewpoints.
