Stephen James:

Stephen is the project lead for Avanti’s award winning Evo performance bikes. Stephen has had a strong interest in road bikes since he was young racing professionally overseas and for New Zealand in both road and track disciplines. After several seasons he joined the New Zealand road team as their head mechanic. Still actively riding he has developed the same passion for designing bikes that suit all types of riders from those beginning in the sport to elite riders competing and succeeding at the very highest level. Working within a team of just five kiwi product designers and engineers, Avanti bikes have continued to enjoy international success in all disciplines of the sport and demand for the brand is growing internationally. At the core of this success is the Avanti Design Technology (ADT) program which has led to many of the brands breakthrough in bike design and enabled them to continue to push the boundaries in creating some of the lightest, stiffest and fastest bikes on the planet! All from a small office in Mount Wellington. Stephen will not only share his passion for producing these kiwi speed machines but will also outline the thinking, process and indeed the science behind the ADT program and its newest success story, the Evo’s.
