A Green Place to Sit - Design for a better world

Area Declic has launched a competition exclusively for female designers: students and professionals from age 22 upwards to invite them to take part in designing a Collection of Seating for Outdoor use.

We are asking entrants to submit a project for a COLLECTION of SEATING for OUTDOOR use: chairs and benches / chaise longue and pool-side loungers / seats (with or without arms) and stools.

Entries can be submitted for only one of those forms of seating.

We are seeking innovative designs and solutions which help reduce the impact their manufacturing, use and disposal has on the environment.

Entrants are free to choose the materials, however the likeness of the projects with the designs of the promoter Area Declic, will be taken into account (iron or aluminium with plastic, wood, weaves).

The guidelines for the projects are as follows:


1.    Choosing materials

  • Minimizing the use of toxic substances
  • Incorporating recyclable/recycled materials in the product
  • Reducing the quantity and the type of materials used
  • Using materials that are compatible in the recycling process

2.    Manufacturing

  • Reducing waste

3.    Transportation

  • Minimizing packaging
  • Using reusable packaging

4.    Maintenance

  • Allowing easy access for the replacement and maintenance of components

5.    Dismantling

  • Making dismantling of seating components easier.

The cut off date for entries is Monday 8 March 2010.

Prizes
1st classified: 1.500,00 €
2nd classified: 1.000,00 €
3rd classified: 500,00 €


Prizes will be awarded based on the innovation, originality and clarity of the design.  Entrants may submit more than one project but each project must comprise 3 drawings of 297 x 210 cm which must be submitted as either a PDF or an image but must not exceed 5 MB.  The design must be in 3D and have a caption of up to 500 keystrokes describing the technical specifications of the product and its environmental impact.  The drawings and the completed entry form should be sent to: competition@areadeclic.com

The judges' decision is final and shall be made known by 2nd April 2010.  Prizes will be awarded during the furniture fair "Salone Internazionale del Mobile" in Milan on Sunday 18th April at 15:00 in the Area Declic space in exhibition area 6, stand D 55.

Area Declic shall have an option right for sixty days after awarding the prize for the manufacturing of the designs submitted.  Opportunities for professional collaboration shall be discussed directly with individual designers.
