Textile Design
Our programme represents the breadth and depth of textiles in the 21st century, embracing the limitless possibilities in new conceptual and technological advances. An intellectual, creative setting provides critical debate in interdisciplinary practice; students originate concepts to create innovative design solutions. Our excellent relationships with national and international industries provide students with opportunities for experience through ‘live’ projects and external placements.
Textile design offers a rich mix of studio processes in print, dye, weave, knit and mixed media. Students develop skills to embrace and integrate techniques, technologies and sustainable approaches for translating concepts into new textiles, applications and marketable products. Commercial capabilities are gained through the development of individual business plans, websites and online portfolios. Engagement with cultural and heritage organisations is encouraged. We provide a stimulating research environment for postgraduate study. Graduates have pursued careers in fashion, interiors, film, theatre, trend predictions, styling, marketing and merchandising.
First Year Students across the BFA (Hons) and BDes (Hons) share a core suite of papers in their first year.
