The National Institute for Design Research (NIDR) was established in 2003 as a focal point for design research and postgraduate education in the Faculty of Design. The Advertising and Illustrative Photographers Association (AIPA) was founded in the spring of 1978 by a small group of Auckland photographers who felt there was a need for more communication within the business with regard to the issues of the time. Alongside its original aims, AIPA has evolved to include a number additional areas of focus.
