About Fraser Gardyne

graduated in 1976 from Wellington Polytechnic School of Design. My first job as a designer was working for AH & AW Reed designing books. nnThis allowed me to develop my primary interests in typography, photography and illustration whilst working with editors enabled me to better understand the importance of the written word. nnIn 1983 I joined the company that became DesignWorks (Publication Graphics) and soon after in January 1984, moved to Auckland as their expansion northwards from Wellington. nnOver the years I helped develop the companies portfolio of FMCG retail brand and packaging clients along with their corporate and publishing clients. nnI resigned as a director of DesignWorks in 1993 to set up a purposely small Gardyne Design. nnOur current client list is made up of a mixture of small to medium sized companies. All of our work to date has come from either existing clients or personal referrals. nnGardyne Design is a graphic design agency specialising in the designing, establishment and the ongoing implementation of brands. This can mean that we start right at square one with the naming and creation of a new brand from scratch. Or as we often do, come in after a brand is already established to redefine, refine and develop that brand for improved performance. nnI was an inaugural member of The Illustrators and Designers Association (IDA) which was set up in Auckland in 1984. In 1988 the IDA amalgamated with The New Zealand Society of Industrial Designers (NZSID) to become the Designers Secretariate which in turn joined with the New Zealand Association of Interior Designers in 1991. I have been a national councillor, on and off, over the years since 1988. I am the current Vice President (President Elect) and a Professional Member of the Designers Institute of New Zealand . nnI am a co-convenor of The Best Design Awards and have been on the steering committee and acted as a judge for the Pride in Print Awards since their inception in 1993. nnI married Naomi on New Years Eve 1987 and we have two daughters, Lucy and Maggie. I have a weakness for good wine and Citroens.
