From the Chief Executive Officer...
The portfolio as Chief Executive Officer for the Designers Institute of New Zealand
is to continue to build growth for the members.
- Growth that continues to create even stronger national designer membership in both the student and professional categories.
- Growth of sponsors; as sponsorship is essential for the development of DINZ initiatives and projects. Partnerships with industry support professionalism and enable industry change.
- Growth in relationships with New Zealand government. In particular strengthening partnerships with New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) and the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).
NZTE have developed the Better by Design program and they are dedicated to raising awareness to businesses of design as an effective tool for business success.
TEC's contribution is to build the capability of the design sector through growth pilots, internships for new designers, design management and strategy courses, design accreditation and the development of new curriculum for design in business.
- Growth with national organizations with affiliated objectives NZIA, FINZ, IPNZ
- Growth with international institutions that broaden the perspective of design beyond our own shores. Such as ICOGRADA,ISCID & DIA
- Growth of the awards initiatives such as BeST Design Awards, the Design in Business Awards (diba), and the Design Ambassadors Awards.
- Growth of our website as a relevant and current tool that provides through our professional directory the opportunity for business to reach the creme of New Zealand designers.
- Growth of the continuing professional development program that assists designers to upskill and stay abreast of current thinking, technologies, legal issues, intellectual property law, government legislation and codes, contract documents for design services and project management, and mentoring programs for both students and practicing designers. That these programs are run nationally.
- Growth in developing connective relationships and links to business, business institutes and business incubators.
- Growth from the support of the tertiary education sector. Working with teritiary to provide students with mentoring, portfolio critiques and establishing work experience programs.
- Growth of our archives so that those who have contributed to the evolution of design in this country are acknowledged and this history is preserved as part of our kaupapa.
