DINZ honours its members at the AGM

Meet the new Fellow, Life and Honorary members

Fellows

"Professional member who has given especially meritorious or distinguished service to the Institute or its predecessor societies or the design profession."

John Hughes; Martin Hughes Interior Architects; hughes@martinhughesdesign.com

John HughesJohn, and his then business partner Colin Martin, formed Martin Hughes and were the first company some 30 odd years ago to introduce fees as part of the interior design profession. John has long been active within the institute and keeps raising the awareness that we should, as designers, refer to the institute as the Designers Institute and not DINZ as we are apt to do. His rationale is that it reinforces that there is an institute for designers and not just another acronym that very few understand the meaning of. John's passion for design and the arts has seen him build a significant interior design company where each year his team successfully takes home awards at the BeST Design Awards. John was awarded the Outstanding Achievment Award at the BeST Design Awards in 1999.

David Muir; Ellery Muir david@ellerymuir.co.nz

David MuirDavid has made a long standing commitment to DINZ over many years. He has been on the BeST Design Awards committee 1996 to 1998. David was Secretary of the Designers Institute for four years and judged spatial for the 2003 BeST Design Awards. Nearly nine years ago he started Ellery Muir and with that David brings his wealth of experience to a committee that is currently developing strategies for DINZ spatial members around the building legislation of the 2004 Building Act.

Murray Pilcher; Burrows Pilcher Design murray@bpdesign.co.nz

Murray PilcherMurray, along with Fraser Gardyne and Michael Major in 1995 brought back the BeST Design Awards after a four year hiatus. He has been on the BeST Design Awards committee in 1996 to 1998. Murray has always been outspoken for product design and the Designers Institute. Murray this year was part of the committee who developed the Better by Design Discussion Paper and DINZ Action Paper that was presented to the Better by Design Advisory Board (see the website to read this document).

Carin Wilson; Studio Pasifika; carin@studiopasifika.co.nz

Carin WilsonCarin was President of the Designers Institute for the 1992 to 1993 term and ran a very lively council with many DINZ events that were well supported by members. He was also on the BeST Design Awards committee in the early years. Carin has been a designer who keeps setting new directions for design and embraces the nature of his culture within his design work and therefore creating a contemporary view. Carin continues to be involved with DINZ and this year was a judge for the Design Ambassadors Dyson Product Awards.
