DINZ Design Business Series: exclusive to DINZ Associate, Professional, Fellow Members only

Building the Business Capability of DINZ Members

Designed and delivered by WHK Business Growth

This will be as two series. Series One is a half day commitment (9am -12pm) for 4 consecutive weeks

This is a fantastic opportunity for DINZ members to grow and improve the profitability of their business.

The training has two components:

1.Group Training / Workshop - Practical workshops filled with industry case studies, workbooks and materials all supported by real world experience. The workshops are aimed at transferring skills and knowledge in a range of business areas and management. All are designed to leave you with ideas, knowledge and tips you can actually implement in your business.

2.One-on-one Follow Up Coaching - One-on-one follow up coaching is aimed at helping workshop attendees implement the skills, ideas and knowledge gained in group training and develop action plans.

These delivery mechanisms are supported by an integrated package of information, education, practical exercises and networking to help DINZ members manage their business more effectively and efficiently.

FIRST SERIES: Workshops open to Product, Spatial and Graphics - July 15th, 22nd, 29th, August 5th

Every Tuesday from 9am - 12pm for 4 consecutive weeks

1. Attitude is Everything - Train Your Attitude to Win in Business - 15th July 08

This workshop will assist with the development of some of the most critical traits that business owners and managers must master in order to succeed " openness, tenacity, motivation and ambition.

Content includes:

路 Developing a leader's key attribute - openness

路 Exploring ways to think strategically and innovatively

路 Growing and capturing motivation for action

路 Learning to learn from failures

2. Business Planning - 22nd July 08

Business planning is the process of translating and refining a vision into a profitable business. This workshop will provide practical tools and techniques to develop effective and achievable goals and business plans to ensure business success.

Course content includes:

路 Establishing effective goals. Integrating personal goals with the goals of the business

路 Creating Big Hairy Audacious Goals for your business

路 The business planning process: Where we are now, where do we want to be and how do we get there?

路 SWOT analysis

路 Identifying your competitive advantage and growth strategies

路 How operational plans such as: Human resources, marketing, production, finance, information technology, innovation etc relate to your overall business plan

路 Worked examples, plus time to work on your own goals and plan

3. Marketing Strategy - 29th July 08

路 Review: Marketing audit

路 Identify your most profitable target customers

路 Securing your competitive advantage

路 Effective marketing tools

路 Brand positioning and considerations

路 Client retention strategies

4. Marketing Communications - 5th August 08

路 Client acquisition

路 Develop a unique selling proposition

路 7 steps to closing the sale

1. Costing and Pricing to Improve Profitability

Business owners need to understand costs and what drives profitability in their business. This half day workshop will equip participants with the skills to understand business costs, and effectively set pricing and service levels.

Course content includes:

路 The Drivers of Profitability

路 Understanding fixed and variable costs

路 Calculating charge-out rates

路 Calculating breakeven points

路 Allocating overheads to products/services and setting prices to ensure profitability

路 Includes worked examples

2. Small Business Tax

This half day workshop is to assist self employed business people to understand tax compliance. This programme is suitable for those who do not employ staff. For clients who do employ staff they are advised to attend this workshop and also the Tax for Employers workshop.

路 Compliance with GST, ACC, and Income Tax

路 Treatment of motor vehicles and business entertainment

路 Withholding Tax

路 Home office deductibility

路 Interest deductibility

路 The IRD - useful tools available, tips and online filing options

3. Budgeting and Cashflow Planning

Without clear financial budgets and cashflow projections many business fail to reach their goals. Inadequate cashflow is one of the major constraints to business growth, and a common reason for business failure.

Course content includes:

路 Profit planning

o Sales and expense forecasting

o Setting profit margins

路 Cashflow forecasting

o The differences between profit and cash

o Controlling cashflows

o Timing Issues

o Cashflow planning

路 Balance Sheet forecasting - A case study will show you how these principles work
