From the President...
The Designers Institute's vision is to build international recognition for New Zealand as a world leader in design, and, to ensure that designers are recognised and rewarded for their contribution to design. The Tasks and Visions document written in 2002 sets out objectives and strategies that are guidelines to assisting towards this vision. This document is regularly reviewed and was revised to meet changing needs in 2004. MembershipThe Designers Institute Professional Membership is the category where you are deemed to have reached a recognised standard of professionalism and are entitled to use the appellation MDINZ. As a Professional member the designer is obliged to conduct their practice under the Institutes Codes of Ethics. A professional member also has their own profile on this website which they will be able to update and that links to their own website. As a Professional member the designer, should a situation arise, there is a mediation service offered to both the designer and client. The initial membership category applied for by students and practicing designers is Associate membership. Associate members are encouraged to apply for professional membership after they have been practicing successfully for a time. Designers or students of design are encouraged to join the Designers Institute and the you can join online from our website or download the application forms. CouncilThe Council are professional members who have been elected to represent the membership.The Council is composed of designers from each discipline who have volunteered their time to building a strong Institute that promotes professionalism for the design community and wider. This current new era Council represents the membership with a vital mix of gender and experience creating a positive dynamic of energy, debate and teammanship. AwardsThe Institute has three highly respected national award programs.
